Maybe it's the brilliantly-colored costumes or the belief expressed by owner Arielle Juliette that dance is part of our primal human nature and that dance can be the path to fitness. For any number of reasons, members at the Dance Life Studio are guaranteed to have fun while getting into the best shape of their lives.
"Most of the people who attend Dance Life are those who want to be active and have fun, and don't like to feel like they are necessarily exercising," Juliette said. "We do have challenging fitness classes, but for the most part we focus on classes that get you moving and having a good time, or learning super fun dance routines, some of which we perform in our special in-house, ladies only events like Inappropriate Song Night."
Juliette opened Dance Life Studio in 2010 when a convergence of factors enabled her to realize her dream of inspiring women to find a positive self image. The studio offers classes in disciplines from ballet and burlesque to belly dancing and Zumba and everything in between. Her goal was to bring dance and movement to everyone, of all abilities, sizes, and ages.
"Come as you are and you will not be judged. We're here to have fun, and get into our bodies!" Juliette said. "My personal favorites are the belly dance classes that I get to teach a whole song or my performance troupes because they let me express all of my inner weirdo. Our most popular classes are ones like Zumba, CIZE, Burlesque Fitness and Xabeat, because our fitness classes feel 'dancier' than most. Our technique classes like Adult Ballet and Burlesque Fundamentals are also quite superb, if I do say so myself!"
Anyone wanting to join in the fun should begin by getting a punch card which is a class pass for anywhere from four to 16 classes. The cards never expire and are not limited to a single class. This means that members can join in any class they like. Class descriptions and schedules are posted on the studio website. Special events can range from burlesque to hip hop and require registration.
Juliette and the other instructors are all professionally-trained dancers or fitness coaches. They are well qualified to communicate the fundamentals of dance: pose, movement and that intangible quality of gracefulness. Studio spaces are also available for rental for private parties, events and celebrations.
