Family Owned, Field's At the Wilderness Treats Everyone Like a Member

By Pamela Sosnowski

It's been said that the Field's dining experience begins as soon as you enter the front door. The angular Prairie-style building, which was built by a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright, beckons with its warm colors, subdued lighting, and flowing water fixtures. Then of course there's the menu, which specializes in mouthwatering steaks, sauces, side dishes, and more. It's no wonder why Field's at the Wilderness has remained a favorite of diners in Wisconsin Dells, and recently won a 2017 Diner's Choice Award this from OpenTable.

"It stands out because we appreciate our local clientele," General Manager Ryan Hasheider said "Professional staff provides care and attention. We are ladies and gentleman serving ladies and gentleman."

That's been the mantra of the Fields brothers since 2000, when Tim, Robert John, and Tom Field set out to open a premiere steakhouse with exceptional food and service for the Wisconsin Dells community. The Fields family has over 60 years of experience in the restaurant business, and the three brothers have combined their unique talents in cooking, hospitality, and business sense to build one of Wisconsin's most notable and successful restaurants.

When patrons enter the restaurant they are immediately greeted by staff, have their coat checked, and are escorted to the colorful lounge if they prefer a drink or appetizer pre-meal. Conveniently located on Route 12, Field's at the Wilderness is open seven days a week for dinner and offers a kids menu in addition to its appetizer. a la carte, and entree menus.

Diners can start with soup and salad, including the restaurant's premier lobster bisque, a customer favorite. Popular steak dishes include prime rib when it's available, filet, top sirloin, and the French cut lamb chops. Several steak enhancers such as mushrooms and savory sauces are available for an additional charge. All entrees come with a potato and fresh vegetable.

"Everything on the menu is fantastic," Hasheider said. "Dry aged steaks, wonderful seafood, great appetizers, and excellent drinks make for a wonderful evening out. I can't pick any favorites. Every evening there is also a few additional featured entrees to choose from."

Field's also features an outdoor patio for dining al fresco during the warm months. The bar and lounge recently began offering happy hour Sunday through Thursday, when customers can enjoy 25 percent off drinks and specially priced appetizers like flatbread pizza and oysters on the half shell.

In addition to the generously sized dining area, Field's can accommodate large reservations for any of its three private rooms. The largest one overlooks the premise's pond and can seat up to 30 guests. The rooms are ideal for birthday parties, corporate gatherings, showers, and more. The restaurant's staff is happy to work with clients to help plan and personalize any special occasion.

Field's believes in treating its guests as family, and that's been the secret to the restaurant's success for 17 years now.

"This is a family owned and operated business, and with that being said, there is always a smiling face and warm welcome," Hasheider said. "We strive to meet and exceed expectations and go the extra mile in all we do here."
