Feeding Your Family Like They're Your Own At Wood's BBQ

If you're looking for some good old fashioned bbq with a family-friendly setting, then you need to check out Wood's BBQ in Sauk City, Wisconsin. When it comes to family, the Woods know how to do it right, and they're welcoming each and every patron into their already-large family fold.

"The inspiration for the restaurant comes from my family's long history for bbq'n and grilling at family gatherings and get togethers," Cody Wood, owner of Wood's BBQ, said.

Serving large families a large quantity of barbeque is a Wood's BBQ specialty. Wood's father, Myron, was one of nine children born to Maynard and Delores (Dolly) Wood, who first started the family tradition of owning a restaurant. Today, there are 22 grandkids and 28 great-grandkids in the Wood family. These large-scale family gatherings still consist of flame-seared meals around a large grill, even as time has moved on.

Maynard and Dolly Wood no longer own the first restaurant in the Wood family, but it hasn't stopped Cody Wood from celebrating his family heritage. He aims to honor his family's traditions and legacy by serving the community the same meals his relatives enjoy at each and every gathering. He sees it as the Wood Family way.

To instill the family gathering feel he strives to provide his patrons, Wood has been very careful about the ambiance portrayed by the facility. The welcoming environment seems to work wonders. At any given time you can find everyone from doctors and lawyers to farmers and blue collar hard-working Americans eating at Wood's.

"Wood's BBQ's atmosphere is laid back and is a come as you are place," Wood said. "We pride our place on not being fancy and letting our food speak for itself."

If you ask around, you'll hear about how great the entire menu is, but there are definitely a few front-runners upon closer inspection. BBQ ribs make the list, with a choice of several house-made sauces. Smoked Mac n' Cheese is another you'll hear raves about. Pulled pork also joins the favorites' list, which, for the BBQ-lover, is available for purchase by the pound, and if you happen to find yourself around on a Thursday or Saturday, you can join the many that savor the Smoked Prime Rib.

In addition to focusing on the atmosphere, Wood keeps his reputation in-line by maintaining his service. At Wood's BBQ, they don't skimp on quality or quantity. Whereas most places are one or the other, when you dine or carry out from Wood's BBQ, you're getting both. All dinners, sides, rubs, and sauces are created from scratch. When it comes to portions, Wood wants to ensure his customers are getting the bang for the buck, ensuring portions are adequate.
