Find a Holistic Approach to Health at Abundant Joy Yoga and Wellness

By Marina I. Jokic

If you are in the market for a new kind of fitness experience, Abundant Joy Yoga and Wellness in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin is the place to visit. Owner and long-time instructor Karen Rudolph has more than 25 years of experience teaching yoga as well as several other disciplines such as Zumba, Aikido, and even somatic movement. The latter is a holistic therapy that studies the relationship between the mind and body in regard to a patient's psychological past.

Rudolph is deeply rooted in the local community, attested by the fact that she has been teaching in Oconomowoc and Lake Country for over two decades. Rudolph enjoys sharing the many tools she has learned over the years to help her students build and maintain a sense of wellbeing. Having been trained in multiple styles of yoga, Rudolph also taught a Teacher Apprenticeship program that has minted some of the best instructors in the area.

With years of experience under her belt, Rudolph decided to open Abundant Joy Yoga and Wellness seven years ago, inviting the knowledgeable practitioners she had met throughout her practice. In addition to her yoga expertise, she was also trained in leading meditation, Reiki and aromatherapy, a special addition to many of her classes. Each day, Rudolph continues to grow in her profession and to share the latest techniques with her students. Her teaching style has a strong emphasis of body awareness, safety, and ease.

"As we learn to move safely and freely in our bodies, we can find so much joy in our practice, which is then taken off our mat and into our everyday life," she said. "We need more joy in our world and Abundant Joy is here to help you learn how."

Abundant Joy is not just a run-of-the-mill yoga and fitness studio. It is a wellness center whose classes run the gamut of holistic approaches to robust health. In addition to weekly classes, there are workshops covering various subjects like meditation with the aid of gemstones and aromatherapy, aerial yoga, paddle boarding on the lake, candlelight yoga, and SNOga retreat day that is filled with yoga and snowshoeing.

Each year, Abundant Joy hosts a Wellness Expo and supports a local charity, inviting nearly 50 other wellness practitioners to share their expertise through demos, consultations, and presentations. Families are encouraged to take part in children's activities, sample healthy foods, enjoy free classes and many giveaways.

"I believe that every one of us can benefit from [yoga and the many other modalities we offer]," Rudolph said. "I get regular massages and love reflexology [which helps me] stay pain-free."
