What services does your company provide?

We provide residential and light commercial new construction, remodel or service work. This includes plumbing, drain cleaning and the installation of septic systems.

What questions should you ask a prospective new plumber?

The first and foremost question you should ask a plumber is if they are qualified to do the work. You need to know that the individual coming into your home knows what they are doing with your water system which could affect your entire community's water system. There is a reason that plumbers go through a 5 year apprenticeship, and then another 3 years of on the job experience and another exam before they become a Master Plumber. Every plumbing company needs to operate under a Master's Plumber License, and then their plumbers must be qualified as either Journeyman or Apprentice plumbers. You should also find out whether the company is fully insured to do the work.

It's also important to keep in mind that it's not always best to select the cheapest plumber. Your mother was right when she said, "You get what you pay for." If someone is significantly less than the other bids you've received, it can be a sign they are not fully qualified to do the work. Review the bids closer - see if what they've bid is apples to apples. If you're still not sure, ask for job references. You need to be comfortable that they are a quality, reputable contractor.

How can you tell if a plumber is qualified?

Ask them what their Master or Journeyman's license number is, or if an apprentice, how long they've been working under their licensed plumber. It's a great idea to ask for references or to see examples of their work as well.

Where do you suggest looking for plumbers?

A great place to look for a qualified plumber is first to ask someone in the area that you know and trust. If buying a new home, a good place to start is with your realtor. If building a home, your general contractor is a good referral source. The local chamber of commerce will also have companies that they can refer. Otherwise go online and take a look. A reputable company will have examples of their work on display for you.

Why should I buy my plumbing fixtures through my plumber instead of a big box store or internet website?

A reputable plumber purchases their product through a reputable supplier. What many consumers may not know is that while some popular plumbing fixture brands are carried by "big-box stores" they are not the same quality fixture that your plumber carries. In order to cut costs, many of the fixtures sold to "big-box stores" contain internal parts and pieces that are made of a lesser grade material. So on the outside to the consumer it may look to be the same faucet, but in actuality it is a much lesser grade, lesser quality faucet than what the plumber stocks for their customers.

Also, when you purchase fixtures through a plumber, they ensure that it is the right fit for your plumbing system. They know that it will work well for you and it will have all the parts and pieces in it. If you purchase through an online supplier or big box store, more often than not there will be pieces missing and you'll end up paying your plumber for time to find replacement pieces and many times it will end up costing you more than if you had just purchased the fixture through them in the first place. When you purchase fixtures through a reputable plumber, they will make sure it's the right fixture for your situation, they will install it properly, and they'll stand behind their product.
