Heidel House Resort and Spa A History of Lakeside Relaxation

By Elisha Neubauer

The Heidel House Resort and Spa has a long-standing history. Before it was the Heidel House the original building was built as a private residence back in 1890, called the Kelly House. The residence included the main house, a stable house, tack house, and pump house and sat on 12 acres of land.

In 1945 the home took a different path. It was purchased by a newspaper publisher and a teacher, Herb and Lucille Heidel. The Heidel family spent $20,000 on the property, but decided to put it to good use. That New Year's Eve began the home's career as a hospitality house. The Heidels hosted their very first guests for a lakeside fine dining event thus beginning the long-running history of the resort.

"The inspiration behind opening Heidel House Resort & Spa was all about offering up the best guest experience one could," Whitney Meza, the resort's marketing manager said. "Herb and Lucille Heidel, the original owners, favored giving their guests an unforgettable experience with a homey, but still luxurious ambiance."

Trying hard to keep the same ambiance, the Heidel House has retained its same charm and quaintness that drew the first guests to the lakeside retreat, while adding the luxurious feel that new guests are seeking. "Between the gorgeous lake views to help ease the mind while relaxing in the guest rooms, or at any of our three restaurants, to Evensong Spa where guests can be pampered decadently head to toe, the atmosphere is a true oasis of relaxation," Meza said.

The spa which Meza speaks of offers a wide variety of treatments, including massages, body treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures, and even salon services such as hair styling and more. Guests are encouraged to use the free amenities such as the eucalyptus steam room or the waterfall whirlpool. There is even a labyrinth on-site, which helps with gaining mental peace. "Evensong Spa also offers the Relaxation Room for guests to enjoy the beautiful scenery or quiet time, as well as the Spa Café for a healthy lunch," Meza added.

The current staff of the Heidel House Resort and Spa has worked very hard to continue in the footsteps of the founders. They strive to offer the same warmth and relaxation that the Heidel family aimed to provide.

"It's our atmosphere and ambiance which promotes a recharging of the batteries that makes Heidel House stand out to our guests," Meza said. "They leave feeling better than when they arrived."
