Iron Grip Gym Tackles Functional Fitness

By Kelly Church

An affiliate of Everybody Fights developed by George Foreman III, Iron Grip Gym is a functional fitness program for Middleton, WI. Functional Fitness, according to Iron Grip Gym's philosophy, is practicing movement that directly benefits the athlete's day-to-day life.

Owners Dustin and Nicole Parish opened her gym in 2013 after the functional fitness studio she was previously attending closed. Her studio uses kettle bells, ropes, weights and suspension trainers in a variety of ways through group classes to practice the functional fitness philosophy.

"We offer so many classes at Iron Grip Gym that it's tough to describe a single workout," Nicole Parish said. "Our workouts include the train series (cardio [and] strength), the body series (bodyweight [and] yoga), and the bag series (cardio [and] boxing) giving our clients a wide variety of classes they can take each day."

A typical class in the train series features timed one-minute intervals with 15 seconds between each interval. Classes are about 45 minutes. The studio recently added boxing to their class offerings, too. According to Parish, there is a lot of friendly competition that goes on in classes between members.

"Our clients know each other well, have good conversation and good competition if they desire," Nicole Parish said. "It's an environment that keeps them motivated and accountable. We keep the mood light and make sure everyone feels welcome."

Parish said the studio's trainers are "all on the same page" in regards to training. This gives all classes a level of consistency that not only allows members to effectively prepare, but also provides results.

Memberships at Iron Grip Gym are $129 per month for an individual, but there are discounts available for couples that sign up together, and families. Additional discounts are also available to those who commit to a 12-month membership. Teachers, students, law enforcement, paramedics and members of the fire department receive a 15% discount at the studio, as well.
