Mound Street Yoga Empowers By Teaching Proper Body Movement and Harnessing Positive Energy

Mound Street Yoga Center is a Madison, WI yoga and Pilates studio that offers "intelligent fitness and practical wisdom" through gentle and intermediate yoga, Pilates, movement and Tai Chi classes. Scott Anderson, one of the studio owners, started practicing yoga as a teenager, and views the body as a microcosm of the greater natural world that in turn inspires creativity.

"The mission of Mound Street Yoga Center is to educate and empower people through the practices of yoga, Pilates and meditation," Alicia Wright, the studio manager, said. "We have been open for 30 years. We are one of Madison's oldest yoga and Pilates studios."

The studio's instructors bring years of experience to the studio's weekly classes. Both Anderson and co-owner Colette Stewart teach classes, alongside Wright and 14 other instructors. Yogis and Pilates students of all ages and levels are welcome because Mound Street Yoga Center has a class for all students.

"Mound Street strives to maintain a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for all types of students," Wright said. "Students are encouraged to develop at their own pace through self-acceptance and a maturation of self-awareness. The individual is esteemed in the process through teaching that observes the body, mind and emotions as an intertwining of energy and structure."

Classes like Melt, held Friday mornings, teach a simple self-treatment technique to lessen chronic pain and the physical signs of aging. According to Mound Street, Melt keeps the body active, healthy and youthful. Movement Lab is another class that helps students get in touch with their bodies, gaining a deeper understanding of how the body works and become stronger.

Mound Street Yoga Center also hosts yoga series and workshops throughout the year. Coming up, the studio has a neck and shoulder freedom workshop. Wright said this workshop is especially relevant now. With more and more people working at desks and computers, neck, shoulders, and backs can get tight and sore. This workshop will help you resolve neck and shoulder pain, and offer solutions for a more dynamic and effective approach to postural alignment.
