Seasonal restaurant The Freckled Frogg is a Ripon, WI café with a menu that changes as its available ingredients do. Owner Michael Rietveld purchased The Freckled Frogg from the previous owner and although he doesn't know how she wound up with the name, he maintained the small, intimate feel of the café.
Rietveld said that in order to give customers a relaxing experience, reservations are spaced out in 90-minute increments. This gives every guest the opportunity to enjoy his or her meal and a nice conversation without feeling rushed.
The menu uses fresh ingredients, often sourced from Waupaca County, for a local dining experience. Because of that the menu changes frequently to utilize the freshest ingredients that each day has to offer. Rietveld said his favorite menu items are The Freckled Frogg lemonades and quiches. Each quiche is made fresh in the morning and changes on a daily basis using whatever ingredients are available that day.
"We are always on the hunt for new, fresh ingredients to incorporate into the café," Rietveld said. "We have a really cool platform for our menu in our chalkboard that has our daily menu and allows us to change the selections in order to reflect the fresh ingredients we receive."
The Freckled Frogg also offers catering, which Rietveld said is a break from the run-of-the-mill catering menu. The café team works closely with the coordinator of each event to design a menu that fits each occasion. Rietveld said that the catering menu is also an opportunity for him and his cousin, the co-owner, to show what they learned during their travels abroad before purchasing the café.
"My cousin and I have done extensive traveling around the world for about seven years now," Rietveld said.
