Top 5 Rising Towns in Dane County

Dane County is the second most populated county in the State of Wisconsin. With the state's capital, Madison, as its center, the county contains numerous towns and villages ready to become the next rising star of Dane County.

  1. Deforest. The south-central Wisconsin village of Deforest is only 10-minute drive from Madison. Poised to attract new businesses, this town's motto is "Growing The Good Life." According to the Deforest-Windsor Economic Development the "area is well connected to major markets and supply chains and a quality workforce within 50 miles." Its closeness to Madison, excellent education system, quality recreation areas and population of over 9,000 make it a great place for families. Single-family homes average $256,109, with condominiums at $200,610 to purchase.
  2. Windsor. The sister city to Deforest, this town is also ready for new companies to come in and make Windsor home. Providing an urban-rural balance to that of the city of Madison, Windsor has a population of 7,000. Condominiums run $139,851 and single-family homes $285,956 on average to own a home. Along with Deforest, the towns are near Interstates 39, 90 and 94 for quick access to other areas.
  3. Oregon. Located just seven miles south of Madison with a population of over 9,000, the town of Oregon has a small-town, family feel. With nationally recognized schools, lovely parks and lots of outdoor recreation, Oregon is a nice place to unwind after a day's work. If you want to purchase a home here, condominiums average $162,915 and single-family homes $383,787.
  4. Verona. With a population of about 11,000, Verona is located southwest of Madison, which is just minutes away. Considered one of the fastest-growing areas in the Dane county, Verona has festivals and both indoor and outdoor recreation spots to enjoy after work or on the weekends.   5. Waunakee.Humorously billed as "the only Waunakee in the world," over 12,100 people live in Waunakee. The town's business park is on 160 acres where many large and small businesses are run. Waunakee has a skating rink, skateboarding park and other recreational areas to keep one busy. Located just north or Madison, condominiums average $146,477 and single-family homes $397,678.
