Wedding Photography With a Hint of Fashion, Photojournalism

By Kelly Church

Katie Ricard is a Fitchburg, WI wedding photographer that shot her very first wedding in high school with her dad as her second photographer. Growing up, she was always around cameras thanks in part to her dad working as a video editor for years. She has been working as a professional photographer under the Katie Ricard Photography business moniker for several years now.

Ricard said something that she loves about wedding photography is that it allows her to dabble in a little bit of all types of photography: portraits, documentary, food, still life, landscapes and more. She said her work has elements of fashion and editorial photography in it, which is what she originally went to school for. After studying photojournalism and realizing fashion photography wasn't right for her, she transitioned into wedding photography. However, her work still has elements of a fashion and editorial photographer.

"There are so many things I love about being a wedding photographer, but I think the biggest thing is that it's different every time," Ricard said. "No two couples are the same, so it's a job that never gets boring. Plus, it's so rewarding to capture these once in a lifetime moments for my couples to look back at for years to come."

Ricard says that she works very well with couples who are laid back and are looking for natural and beautiful photography. She claims she has no problem being direct when need be, as she's there to get things done just right for the couple she's hired by. With all the wedding photographers available, she believes it's important to have a good relationship with whichever photographer a couple chooses for their special day.

"There are a lot of wedding photographers out there, a lot of really amazing ones, so you have to choose someone you feel comfortable with," Ricard said. "You spend the entire day with your wedding photographer, so it's important that you like them as a person. I'm a very easy going person so a lot of my couples tell me that I was a calming presence for them during the chaos of the day."

Ricard can be contacted via email or on her website katiericard.com. For photography inquiries, she asks that couples tell her a little about themselves and their wedding plans.
