Wisconsin Traditions, with a Twist

By David Boegaard

Don't tell the people at Sprecher's Pub in Madison, WI that Sprecher's is a German Pub! Whatever their lineage, Sprecher's is part of a robust tradition as a "Wisconsin Family Brew Pub," says Kirsti Kienitz, Manager of Sprecher's. With a broad menu of contemporary American classic food, 15 craft beers, and three gourmet sodas, Sprecher's has something for everyone.

With a few Sprecher's Pubs spread throughout Wisconsin, Sprecher's has the local ingredients and made to order deliciousness of a boutique cafe, and all the convenience and uniformity of a quality chain. "Not only do we have a scratch kitchen and locally source ingredients whenever possible," says Kienitz, "but with so many great Wisconsin-made craft beers on tap we have the advantage of being able to incorporate them into our menu items."

So what do you get to eat when you go to Sprecher's? Kienitz shares her favorites. "Everyone loves our beer cheese soup but my favorite is our Reuben, the corned beef is slow-roasted in Sprecher Black Bavarian." Ingredients are locally sourced, when possible, and every is prepared from scratch. You can be sure you'll get the freshest, tastiest food around.

But you're in Wisconsin, so a great meal like that ought to be paired with a good drink. Every beer on tap comes from Sprecher's brewery. With 15 beers to choose from, you can't be disappointed.

If you're in the mood for something a little lighter, Kienitz suggests, Sprecher's has been trying some new recipes. "Something new and exciting that we have been experimenting with is using draft beers and sodas as ingredients in cocktails." What exactly does that mean, you might wonder. Kienitz gives a recommendation. "Ever try a mule with Sprecher Hard Ginger Beer? I promise you won't be disappointed!" For the kids, Sprecher's is famous for the Sprecher's root beer, brewed right there in Wisconsin.

Sprecher's doesn't just use local ingredients because it's good for business. It's also a sign of the strong community spirit that permeates Madison. The folks at Sprecher's host fundraisers and participate in various community events.

Sprecher's does its part to make Madison as great a town as possible. But it's really Madison that has made Sprecher's such a success, suggests Kienitz. "This is an amazing area, we are very humbled by the support that we get from everyone!"
